Challenges Parents Face Today

Raising a child has never been easy. Today, it is more challenging than ever. Parents want to encourage their children to believe in themselves, yet must struggle to prepare them for a competitive world that they must face before they are ready. Working harder than ever, parents are also more alone than ever. For many of us, safe backyards, the support of neighbors, relatives, and family traditions, are distant memories. Parents need time for their families, more time than they have; someone to turn to with their children’s behavior, and a community to rely on.

How Touchpoints Helps

Based on Dr. T.B. Brazelton’s pioneering infant research and more than 60 years of listening to parents and children, Touchpoints is a way of understanding and participating in family development. This approach empowers parents to discover their effectiveness as parents, guiding them through their children’s predictable crises ( Touchpoints) to support their children’s self-esteem and readiness to take on the world. With the support of teachers, healthcare and social service providers trained in this approach, parents reaffirm their priorities and their strengths as parents, and make the most of the precious time they do have to give their children the best future they can.

Touchpoints Across the Nation

To reach as many families as possible, the Brazelton Touchpoints Center® reaches out to early childhood educators, early interventionists, and health care and social service providers who are ready for change – a change from focusing only on what’s wrong, to focusing also on what's right; a change from telling parents what to do, to listening to what families need and supporting their discovery of what is best for their children. Since 1996, the Touchpoints Approach has reached over 13,000 providers in over 80 communities, and more than one million families.
